Tone/Technique Books

Nova Music International's Winds Technique Books are performed by Middle School, High School, and Collegiate ensembles all over the world. These comprehensive tone and technique books cover the entire scope and sequence of building superior tone quality, improving intonation, perception of pitch, and developing advanced aural skills. The articulation, scale, chromatic, and sequential exercises help your ensembles build advanced technique and dexterity. The books conclude with chorales and a full set of major and minor scales (natural, harmonic, and melodic). Purchases include a detailed instructional guide and unlimited photocopy permission for the life of the school. Purchases are specific for each school. Most schools purchase Book 1 for their older Middle Schools ensembles and Book 2 for High School ensembles. Although, Book 1 is also used by some younger High School groups. All collegiate ensembles have used Book 2. Although, younger developing collegiate ensembles could benefit from either book.

Winds Technique Book 1

The Winds Technique Book I is designed to be incorporated all year with all of your older middle school or younger high school ensembles. It contains eight sections:

1. Long Tones
2. Lip Slurs/Register Studies|
3. Articulation/Scale Exercises
4. Chromatic Exercises
5. Scale Sequential Patterns (with solfege)
6. Chorales
7. Major Scales (two octaves)
8. Natural, Harmonic, and Melodic Minor Scales (one octave).

For percussion, a mallet part is provided. This book naturally progresses into the Winds Technique Book II. The purchase includes unlimited photocopy permission for the life of the school. An instructional guide is included.

Winds Technique Book 2

The Winds Technique Book II is designed to be incorporated all year with all intermediate to advanced high school or college ensembles. It contains eight sections:

2. Lip Slurs/Register Studies
3. Articulation/Scale Exercises
4. Chromatic Exercises
5. Scale Sequential Patterns (with solfege)
6. Chorales
7. Major Scales (two octaves)
8. Natural, Harmonic, and Melodic Minor Scales (one octave).
